Wikileaks founder accused of rape
Saturday - August 21st, 2010 at 8:07 am
It is always amazing that whenever someone makes the government mad, that with in weeks they turn up in the news in a bad light, either dead, or charged with something. Hmmm, makes one wonder. ^MM
Swedish authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange on suspicion of molestation and rape.
The warrant was issued late yesterday, said a spokeswoman at Sweden’s prosecutors’ office in Stockholm.
She said Assange should contact the Swedish police for questioning about the accusations of molestation and rape in two separate cases “so that he can be confronted with the suspicions”.
Assange has denied the charges, which were first reported by the Swedish tabloid Expressen, on Wikileaks’ Twitter account.
He implied that they were linked to the release by the whistleblowers’ website of a huge cache of US military records about the Afghan war, which were published in collaboration with the Guardian and two other papers.

Thermaltake BlacX rocks!

I love these little Black boxes. I was having problems with my Seagate Freeagent acting strangely and it was getting very warm. So in the long run I ripped open the container and removed the SATA drive and placed it in the Thermaltake BlacX Duet and viola, no more problems, drive works quicker and stays cooler, plus it save me an USB port.
I was also having problems with my Dell 4600 and the USB ports in general so I updated the BIOS from A07 to A12 and no more problems. Only thing I wish had not gotten damaged was my Hauppage USB Live-2. It gets very hot now and then disconnects itself from the USB port. I think it received part of the surge when the last system blew. It seems the only part of the old system that survived was the BlacX single and a Maxtor external hard drive.
With all that has happened, I have decided to back off of technology for a bit and just become a “normal” user. No more “power user” stuff for me. Too expensive and then really expensive when things go wrong. I just can’t afford it. Time to let myself become older and leave all that happy horse shit to the younger generations.

Mysterious ‘bearded’ antelope photographed
Friday - August 20th, 2010 at 6:00 pm
When Paolo Torchio set out across Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve a few weeks ago, it was just a typical Thursday morning for the veteran wildlife photographer, who has lived and worked in Kenya for two decades.
Torchio is intimately acquainted with the beasts that wander the nearly 600-square-mile game reserve, so he was astonished to see a terrier’s face poking out of the tall grass.
“I was wondering, what is this dog doing?” Torchio said. “And when it came out from the grass, that was a surprise.”
The hirsute creature that emerged was clearly not a dog. The animal had all the markings of a Thomson’s gazelle (a type of antelope) — but, like that old song from “Sesame Street,” one of these kids was not like the others. This animal was covered with a strange, thick coat of hair, in stark contrast to the sleek Thomson’s gazelles in its company.

What the hell is wrong with people today? How much more of this crap is the normal public going to take? MM
Des Moines police are stepping up security outside the Iowa State Fair gates after fairgoers were attacked last weekend.
A Des Moines police sergeant and four officers this weekend will provide more security around the fairgrounds’ perimeter.
Typically, the department has 11 officers working the perimeter, mostly helping people park cars, cross streets and board buses. Two other officers provide security in area neighborhoods.
About 1 a.m. Saturday, a roving group of hooligans attacked several fairgoers outside the gates.
“I was bleeding all over the place,” said Bo Gaudineer, 24, of Des Moines, after being attacked by a large group of people in the 200 block of East 30th Street, near the fairgrounds.

Off the Clock By Rebecca Dudley News-tribune Editor/publisher

My ex-husband had this annoying habit of bringing greasy old carburetors and things into the house to work on. So, last week, when my friend called to tell me this story my first response was “Where did this guy live?” Now reassured that I was never related to him by marriage, this really is too hilarious not to share. The way my friend told it this guy pushed his motorcycle from the patio into his living room, where he began to clean the engine with some rags and a bowl of gasoline. When he finished, he sat on the motorcycle and decided to start it to make sure everything was still OK. Unfortunately, the bike started in gear, and crashed through the glass patio with him still clinging to the handlebars. His wife had been working in the kitchen. She came running at the noise, and found him crumpled on the patio, badly cut from the shards of broken glass. She called 911, and the paramedics transported the guy to the emergency room. So far the story is humorous- in a “that is what you get for being a big enough lout to bring your motorcycle into the house” kind of way. But here is where I really split a gut. Later that afternoon, after many stitches had pulled her husband back together, the wife brought him home and put him to bed. She cleaned up the mess in the living room and dumped the bowl of gasoline in the toilet. Shortly thereafter, her husband woke up, lit a cigarette, and went into the bathroom. He sat down and tosses the cigarette into the toilet, which promptly exploded because the wife had not flushed the gasoline away. The explosion blew the man through the bathroom door. The wife heard the explosion and her husband’s screams. She ran into the hall and found him lying on the floor with his trousers blown away and burns on his buttocks. The wife again ran to the phone and called for an ambulance. The same two paramedics were dispatched to the scene. They loaded the husband on the stretcher and began carrying him to the street. One of them asked the wife how the injury had occurred. When she told them, they began laughing so hard that they dropped the stretcher and broke the guy’s collarbone. Talk about instant karma

Tai Chi May Help Ease Fibromyalgia: MedlinePlus
Friday - August 20th, 2010 at 4:47 am
WEDNESDAY, Aug. 18 (HealthDay News) — Fibromyalgia sufferers may find relief from the chronic pain condition by doing tai chi, new research finds.
Researchers divided 66 people with fibromyalgia into two groups: one group did hour-long sessions of tai chi twice a week for 12 weeks; the other had a twice-weekly wellness education class followed by gentle stretching.
At the end of 12 weeks, the tai chi group reported improvements in their scores on questionnaires regarding both physical and mental fibromyalgia symptoms. That included decreased pain and increased ability to do daily tasks without pain; less fatigue, depression and anxiety; and an overall better quality of life. Patients also reported better sleep quality and improved physical conditioning.
The improvements were still evident at 24 weeks, according to the research reported in the Aug. 19 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

U.S. Marshals seize food from rodent-infested Ga. warehouse
Friday - August 20th, 2010 at 4:42 am
U.S. Marshals, acting under a court order sought by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, today seized packaged food products from a rodent-infested warehouse in Athens, Ga. A variety of products, including crackers, cookies and potato chips, were intended for sale to jails and prisons throughout the southeastern United States.
The U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia issued a warrant for the seizure of all of the food in the warehouse from Mid-States Services Inc., that the FDA and the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) determined to be susceptible to contamination by rodents. The food was valued at $859,000.
The government’s complaint alleges that the products are adulterated under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act because they have been held under insanitary conditions, whereby they may have become contaminated with filth.
The two agencies investigated the Mid-States Services facility from July 14 through July 21, 2010, and found “widespread active rodent infestation both inside and outside the facility” according to the government’s complaint.
Investigators found 14 live rodents, seven dead rodents, 23 gnaw holes on multiple food containers, multiple containers of food containing rodent pellets, four rodent nests, and apparent rodent pellets too numerous to count, on and around food packages, as well as finding structural defects making the facilities accessible to rodents.

Kaiser Permanente’s findings underscore the importance of informing pregnant women about the risks of gestational diabetes recurring and the need to find ways to treat the condition effectively.
Women who deal with gestational diabetes in their first or second pregnancy are far more likely to develop the condition again in their third pregnancy, according to a new study from Kaiser Permanente that examined the electronic medical records of 65,132 women. The study was published online in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology last month.
