I am not opposed to AFSCME reopening negotiations with the state under a few circumstances. The first being a state wide wage freeze for ALL state workers, management included. All encompassing, period! And with this stipulation that if even one state worker gets a raise or bonus, including those so called precious University coaches, then the contract will go back in to full effect before the re-negotiations.
Last time AFSCME agreed to a wage freeze of it’s union members, the state promised that by taking the wage freeze no union members would get laid off. Instead the state went a head and laid off and on top of that 6 months after AFSCME agreed to a wage freeze, the state gave all of it’s administrators a 3 to 5% wage increase! This is all public record and can be verified!
But as in all cases before the state is trying to throw blame on the union and it’s members.
I would like to know what the institutions did with the money they were getting for the jobs that they did not fill. Where did the money go? It came out of the general fund for jobs and was given to the institutions, but no jobs were filled, so where is the money?
A lot on unanswered questions and a lot of media spin on making the unions look like the bad guys once again. It is sickening to me that no one reports on the facts and truths anymore. /MANLEY
